To Trump, the trial itself is almost as bad as jail
Personal freedom is our ability to make decisions about what to do, moment by moment. Donald Trump seems not to have experienced, at least as an adult, many constraints on his personal freedom.
Exceptions include the well-reported refusal of his Secret Service detail to take him to the Capitol building on January 6, 2021, and occasions, like now, when he is required to appear in courts.
He tries very hard to prevent such constraints, by physical means, legal tactics, or threats. He reacts to them, when imposed, with obvious anger and threats of retaliation.
It will be dangerous to let him off his leash again. Better for the public to keep him leashed or caged.
