Historically, science has taken the mystery out of many natural phenomena. Philosophy has lagged behind science, rather than leading it.
Neuroscience is currently elaborating the details of how our brains produce our mental experience. No one is finding evidence for the radio receiver analogy, although some may grasp at vague ideas of quantum explanations for solace.
People can still believe that our thoughts are received from external sources by extra-sensory means, and perhaps are influenced by a God or Devil, but one could just as well claim that the behavior of viruses, or lightning bolts, or meteors is directed by non-physical causes -- possibly originating from a God or Devil as well.
Even the distinction between "free-will absolutism or causal determinism" is no longer clear cut. There is neurological evidence that our brains make decisions about our behavior in very complex ways, often influenced by random factors, and we only perceive our actions as free-will decisions.
