That’s a great article, Serafim, and I agree with a lot of the comments also. I would just like to emphasize the point about time scales that some others have also made. A truly galactic-scale civilization would operate very slowly, because of the limit of communication to the speed of light. (I’m assuming that is a real speed limit, not to be exceeded by new discoveries.) Because of that, even if we have been observed by alien probes in the past 10,000 years, that news would not have gotten very far yet, and except for our development in the past 200 years, the news wouldn’t be very interesting to a much more advanced civilization. So the really interesting news about us would be known only very locally, and any response from “them” to us will likely be delayed a long time, beyond the lifetimes of those of us who are living now.
