The Gulf Between the Webb Telescope and MAGA Hats is Vast and Troubling
Can we save ourselves from our danger to ourselves?
The recent launch and, so far successful, deployment of the Webb space telescope might seem to be an example of what supporters of the defeated past President of the United States are advocating. But it’s actually an almost perfect counterexample to their position.
First, the telescope is a result of international collaboration, between the United States, the European Union, and Canada, at least.
Second, the contrast between the amount of knowledge and language sophistication required to create such an amazingly complex telescope, and the crudeness of creating a cheap hat bearing a simplistic slogan, just demonstrates the dilemma of our species:
Can our collective technology, knowledge, and language save us from ourselves, despite the ability of ignorant or malevolent leaders and their supporters to use some of that very technology, knowledge, and language to destroy us?
