But Switzerland refuses to sell
President Trump has proposed buying the Matterhorn from Switzerland and moving it to Canada. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth assures him that the Army Corps of Engineers is up to the task, and Elon Musk is willing to finance the move.
Trump is reported to have said, “Canada doesn’t have a mountain that Americans can name. When Canada becomes the 51st state, it will need one. Switzerland has a mountain that I recognize, and I can rename it Mount Trump to become the symbol of our newest state.”
A spokesperson for the Swiss government countered, “We are not willing to sell the Matterhorn. It is a national symbol for us and a source of great tourist revenue. However, we may be forced to sell it if Trump imposes his threatened massive tariffs on our cuckoo clocks.”
