Very true. We are, above all, social animals. “Tribalism” hardly captures it. Our existence and our successes as humans depend almost entirely on our cooperation with and loyalty to many groups of other humans, ranging from our immediate families, to businesses, cities, nations, religious groups, media organizations, and so on. Our interactions are largely by use of language. Beliefs, not truth, determine our actions.
