What I was trying to say is that “race” is a social construct, not a clear biological one. So it is indeed wrong to oppress or otherwise judge people negatively on that basis. “Racism” is oppressive, unwarranted behavior based on a flawed concept of “race”. Here in Toronto, where I live, there are people from all over the world, with all shades of skin colors, which seems to be one of the most superficial characteristics of “race”. We also have people from many religions, ethnic groups, and cultural groups. So it’s hard to ascribe “race” to a particular person, and I don’t think we should be doing that anyway.

But I do think we should stop judging people on the basis of their superficial characteristics, including skin color, hair, appearance of gender, height, weight, age, disabilities, and the like. We should celebrate the variety.
