Yes, Windows is a pain. I wouldn't be using it except that there is lots of free software available that runs under it. Linux is my preferred alternative.

I dislike Apple because recently I worked on a cell phone app, which I developed under Windows, targeted to Android phones -- all free and easy to do. Then when it came to the iPhone version I had to pay Apple up-front just to be allowed to be an Apple developer. They are arrogant, and overpriced too. We dropped development of the iPhone version.
