Your phrase “turn copper into gold” is misleading. Copper and gold are elements with different amounts of protons and neutrons in their nuclei. Changing those require nuclear fission or fusion. Biological processes can’t perform those. What some bacteria CAN do is extract gold atoms from mixtures of copper and gold atoms by chemical processes.
